My GCSE Option Choices! ♡

Hello my loves! ♡

Today’s post is going to be about choosing my GCSE options the process and how I decided! I really hope some of you find this helpful but also interesting if you were wondering what I was taking. I will also explain the reasons behind my decisions. Please don’t make mean or negative comments and opinions on my choices as it is my choice and I don’t want any negativity.

So I will start with the compulsory subjects. I live in Wales if you didn’t know so I have compulsory Welsh GCSE and Welsh Baccalaureate which is basically work skills. It is 100% course work though. Obviously Maths and English are compulsory and PE is but only the government’s permitted one a week to keep everyone fit. PE GCSE is an option you have to choose. Religious Education is also compulsory and it will be made compulsory in all schools across Wales and in my school the teachers choose whether you should take long course or short course RE. My teacher has decided that I am doing long course which is fine because I find RE pretty easy. Also PSE is compulsory but just as a lesson every two weeks but there is no exam.

Moving onto sciences, in my school we have 4 choices for science. The first one is single applied award science. This is basically where you do all 3 sciences but I am pretty sure you only do 2 exams one is year 10 and one is year 11. But you only get one grade overall and the exam has questions about all 3 sciences in it. It gives you 4 other options to choose from. The next option is double award which is basically all 3 sciences again but you do 10 hours of lessons a fortnight and two exams, you get a grade overall aswell or it might be 2 grades I am not 100% sure. This leaves you with 3 options to choose from. Option 3 is Two full GCSE sciences so you get 2 different grades for the 2 sciences you do 5 hours of one science and 5 hours of the other. This is the option I am taking I will explain more in a bit. The double full science also leaves you with 3 other options. The last option for science is all three full GCSE sciences so 15 hours of Science a fortnight, separate grades in the 3 sciences and this leaves you with 2 options.

So as I said I am doing Two full GCSE sciences, I have decided to do Biology and Chemistry as I hate Physics and I can’t do it or understand it. I am the most confident in Biology lessons but I tend to get better grades and test marks in Chemistry which is weird. I feel like this is the right choice for me and I get two separate grades and they don’t affect each other.

Right so now I will list all the other options I had to choose from and then I will tell you what I chose and why. Art, Business Studies, Food and Nutrition, Creative and Media, D&T Fashion & Textiles, D&T Graphic Products, D&T Product Design, Drama, Events Management, Engineering, French, GCSE Support, Geography, German, Global Business Communications in French level1/2, Health and Social care BTEC or level 2, History, ICT, Music, PE, Sociology and Workskills BTEC or L2 Package.

I have decided to take History, Geography and Sociology. Now I know that many of you will be wondering why I didn’t take a language and it is just because I have grown to not enjoy languages anymore and I know that many of you will believe that I am at a disadvantage to other people by the fact that I am not taking one and I feel like this is the right decision for me. I have always loved History since Year 7 and it is a great subject. Geography I have recently grown to enjoy more and more, I just have been really loving it recently and the topics for GCSE sound so good. Sociology has been a subject I have head my heart set on doing for ages, my mum did it for A level and then she did a degree in it and she loved it. It just sounds so up my street and so interesting and I really do feel like I have picked the right subjects for me.

I can’t wait to take you all on my GCSE journey, this is basically the start of my entire life and I can’t wait to share it with you.

I hope you enjoyed this post and if you have chosen your options this year let me know what you chose in the comments!

Lots of love,

Floral Eden xoxoxo

You’ve made a good choice! It’s best to choose subjects that you enjoy, and that’s what I did when I had to choose mine in year 8. I love gcse geography and I find it so interesting! I’m sure you’ll enjoy all of your subjects! 🙂 xxx

These subjects sound great! I also chose Art and Dt graphics. The science system sounds a little different in England because I was told to do triple science.

This is so helpful for those who haven’t chosen their subjects yet.
