Hey everyone! ♡
Welcome back or to my blog, I hope you are all doing really well, today’s blog post is all about self care & love and how important it actually is. I got such a great response to my post about being tall (which is linked here) : https://everythingeden.co.uk/2018/05/24/being-tall-fashion-society-sport/ that I thought I would do more, so hopefully this post should be inspirational and lovely for you to read. I would love to hear your responses to this post in the comments below!
So let’s go back to where I realised that self care was so necessary. I started my GCSE period in September and it was so scary. The jump has been massive and especially in the past few months when I have had to revise for my Year 10 GCSE’s, I have realised that I really do need to switch off, have time to myself and just actually relax. Our bodies are not machines, we can’t just work, work, work, we need breaks and fun in with all of it.
Why is it important then?
1. To switch off
I kind of addressed this in my previous paragraph but our brains are whirring around at a million miles an hour everyday and lots of us really do have to work our brains hard for 6-8 hours a day and that is a LOT. You need to take some time out of your day to do something that you love: have a bubble bath, a nap, read a book or listen to a podcasts etc. Anything, that makes you focus on something else rather than stress, work, education etc. As long as you are doing something you are enjoying and it is helping you have a work/life balance that is all that matters. I really love Podcasts if you want a few recommendations: Mile Higher Podcast (if you are into aliens, conspiracies and crime etc) At Home With….. if you like female empowerment and good chats. These are my personal faves, but there are so so so so many out there, explore, leave your faves in the comments below!
It is all about celebrating yourself!
2. Your mental health
For your mental health, it is so easy and I am guilty of this too of just forgetting your mental health and doing whatever but looking after yourself, doing what you love and making yourself happy is proven to help your mental health. You will overall feel more refreshed, happy and loving. It feels better when you take a break and just reflect, a healthy mind is the top priority and you will do better in the long run as your more positive mental health will only help you, so look after it, feed it, a healthy mind equals a healthy soul and life.
3. You will be MORE productive
If you look after your self, have a bath, write a blog post ( like I am doing), you will end up being more productive afterwards. If you work too much and for such a long period of time, you can never guarantee that the work you are doing is productive or even beneficial to you. You have to take breaks, enjoy and do self care in whatever way works for you. Trust me, by having more breaks, you will want to be more productive and do better, burning out is never the answer. Or if you have to write an essay, do some research or work from home, listen to your fave radio, podcasts, do it in the bath, anything that can help you relax as well as being productive at the same time. It will make the whole process a lot better.
4. Self care makes you feel happier
Just a simple as that, when you look after yourself, do things you like and love it will make you feel good and happy. It can only benefit you and help you do anything in your daily lives. Being happy helps with your success in everything you do and will help you feel empowered and strive for exactly what you want in life. Happiness is different for everyone, so is self care, it is so great to be different and each of us does things differently and feels differently. So doing exactly what YOU love, will make YOU uniquely be happy.
5. You can de-stress, forget about your worries and just live in the moment.
Again, it makes you smile, obviously it is not going to solve your problems or create a solution, but you need break, you can still healthily think about it and come up with the best solutions whist relaxing. Ideas pop up more often when you are not trying to come up with them. You can tale a step back and look at everything from a different perspective, just leave your worries and stress in the bin for a few hours, do something you love and come back to it, I know people think that you will run out of time, and time is precious, but do you want to look back and think I wasted all that time stressing about that little thing, when I could’ve been doing something I love?
So, I really hope you enjoyed this post, good luck with any more exams that you have, there is not long to go now, keep going!
Thanks so much for reading, you have no idea how much you all mean to me and how much people reading put a smile on my face!
Lots of love,
