Hey everyone! ♡
Happy July, I hope you are all doing really well. Today’s post I am so excited about writing, this is actually the 2nd time I am writing this post as I shut my laptop off and I thought it would automatically save as a draft and it did but all the writing had gone, so I am back to square one but that doesn’t matter. This post is going to be all about Glasses and how people have miss-perceptions of glasses wearers and my views as a Glasses wearer for a long time. I know this is quite a weird topic to talk about but I felt like I wanted to talk about as I want to use my platform in a positive way! I hope you all enjoy and if you have any responses to this post please leave them below because I love replying to your comments!
So I have been wearing glasses for around 12 years now, since I was 3, so I don’t really remember my life without glasses as you don’t have many memories before then. I think my parents spotted the turn in my eye so took me to the opticians. I do actually have a turn in my eye and some sight issues, also I actually found out this year that I have an astigmatism as well so that is my story.
The first thing I want to stress to anyone reading this post is that if you do wear glasses don’t be embarrassed to wear them, they are there to help you and sadly your eyes will only get worse if you don’t wear them when you need to. I do understand especially if you get them later in life that it is a big change and step but trust me it is worth it and especially if your eye problem is retractable, wearing glasses will make the process quicker. If you are worried that your pair doesn’t suit you, there are so so many styles available, I definitely think you should look around.
So I do get really annoyed when people judge you or make perceptions of you becuase you wear glasses. They are a piece of plastic at the end of the day. It doesn’t mean people have the right to judge you or make you feel bad for them. Your not ‘four eyes’ ‘geek’ or anything else, you are you, like there are so many different styles of glasses for so many different types of people. We don’t want to all have the same pair, it would be boring and wouldn’t suit ud all, so why are all people who wear glasses put into the same bracket when actyakly we are all totally unique and that is amazing!
Also, it is quite funny to see people giving into the sudden glasses hype, lots of people buying fake glasses and rocking them. Obviously it is not nice for us to actually have the eye problems but it can make us feel supproted and happy to see them become a fashion statement. Also you must always remember you are never alone, so many people wear glasses. I don’t think I can go out into town without seeing people with glasses on, there is alwas a queue at the opticians and I never feel alone.
According to the Vision Council of America, approximately 75% of adults use some sort of vision correction. About 64% of them wear eyeglasses, and about 11% wear contact lenses, either exclusively, or with glasses. Over half of all women and about 42% of men wear glasses.
I do understand, it can be hard for people to get used to glasses especially if you get them later in life, it is something your not used to and you haven’t tried it before. I get that, but give them a shot, take some cute selfies, try on lots of different pairs and make it a fun experience. Glasses are your friend and always will be, don’t be scared because I promise you anyone can rock a pair of glasses and if you don’t have to wear them all the time, I see girls walking round my school between lessons with their glasses on their head looking super cool, so also it is like the sunglasses on your head trend all year round an it works!
Having to wear glasses and admitting to yourself that you don’t have perfect vision doesn’t make you a weak person, even people who don’t need glasses don’t have 20/20, it is just that we all need some extra help. If anything, acttually admitting you need to wear glasses and wearing them is the strongest thing in this whole situation. You are doing this because it is the best thing for you and is to benefit you not anybody else. It is not the worst thing in life I promise you, it is okay!
I want to end this post with saying that if you don’t feel like glasses are for you, go for contact lenses, I have been using them alongside my glasses and they work just as well and no one can tell you are wearing them unless they come super up close to you. Even if you don’t fancy that, there are lots of surgery options, my Auntie had hers lasered last year and it has changed her life, so look into your options!
I also wanted too stress that it is so so important that you check for these syptoms as you might need to go for an eye test. Also even if you don’t wear glasses going for an eye check every year until your 16 then every 2 can never hurt and it is recommended!
- Frequent headaches
- Blurred vision (farsightedness)
- Poor distance vision (nearsightedness)
- You’re seeing double vision
- It’s hard to see at night
- You’re experiencing eye strain or eye fatigue
- Reading or computer work is compromised
- You’re constantly squinting
- You have difficulty with light adjustments
- You see halos when you’re around light
That is it for today’s post, I really hope you enjoyed it, have a great rest of your week!
